Meet Braxton Dutson: 4-D Wheel Practitioner, LCSW, Certified Sex Therapist, and Podcaster!

Greetings everyone,
My name is Braxton Dutson, and I’m a 4-D Wheel practitioner, LCSW, Certified Sex Therapist, and Podcaster. My story starts with The 4-D Wheel. My first step toward becoming a certified sex therapist was in California, at Esalen with Gina Ogden. I had no idea the impact that weekend would have on my career and life. Learning to reduce my desire to manage therapy sessions by opening up experiences to physical, emotional, and spiritual experiences in the room was groundbreaking for me.

Fast-forward seven years and I’m now a Certified 4-D Practitioner working with clients who feel like they are out of control with their sexual behavior, couples who feel stuck with their sexual expression or faith agreements, and teens who are on the brink of their adult debut.

I noticed over the years that parents, couples, and teens all feel “stuck” in one way or another. Many of these issues benefit from having accurate information about sexual health. I’m passionate about changing this experience with future generations. In 2018, I started a campaign to encourage parents to “Mustard up the courage” to talk to their kids about sexual health. No, not a typo, Mustard… I broke the world record for the most mustard chugged in 30 seconds. The record has since been broken, however, I drank 30.5 oz of mustard in 30 seconds. All in the name of encouraging parents to teach their children about sexual health. It does take courage to talk to your kids about sexual health and to do something uncomfortable.

I figure if I can do something “gross,” “uncomfortable” (and boy was it), or “weird” then I can encourage parents to talk about sexual health. Which is often described as “gross,” “inappropriate,” “uncomfortable,” or “awkward.” Alisha Worthington, a therapist in Salt Lake City Utah told me once (in our podcast interview, “All you have to do is be one chapter ahead.” I think this is true. If you are willing to have difficult conversations about sexual health you will change your child’s life. You don’t need to know it all, you just need to be one chapter ahead. I’m here for you, the podcast is here for you, The 4-D Network is here for you, and with that support, you can for sure be one chapter ahead.

I hope that you take “ugh that’s gross” from this, because well… Mustard in that quantity is gross. I also hope you take “I can do this, I can have hard conversations and get through the questions that come with those conversations.” You got this!

I try to support parents and clinicians with these conversations through my Birds and Bees Podcast. The podcast aims to support clinicians and parents to have sexual health conversations by giving them accurate information about sexual health. You can download the show on any podcast platform you enjoy.
