Interview with Onika Henry

4-D Practitioner Onika Henry

Meet 4-D Network Practitioner Onika Henry, Fulbright Scholar, sex educator, and certified 4-D Wheel practitioner.

What was your first introduction to the 4-D Wheel, and what made you want to learn more?

I don’t remember the details, but sometime in January 2018, I came across Dr. Gina Ogden’s work and her book. I believe it might have been through Sex Coach U that I heard of Dr. Ogden. Based on what I read about her, I purchased her book and so thoroughly enjoyed it, that I reached out to her about doing one of her online courses. I wanted to learn more because her methodology gave me the tools to go deeper into understanding and using shamanic and spiritual approaches as well as the use of the body/movement in healing sexual issues. The 4-D Wheel matched perfectly with the model I was taught as a Sex Coach (MEBES by Dr. Patti Britton) and it allowed me to incorporate expressive arts and ‘creative’ techniques into my work. I really felt that going beyond just “talk therapy” was needed for me to more effectively work with clients. Dr. Ogden generously and graciously offered me a free download of the online course “Expanding the Practice of Sex Therapy” and I have never looked back!

How do you use the 4-D Wheel and what is your specialty?

I am a Sex Educator, Certified Sex Coach, and Somatic Sex Educator In Training (I have recently completed the curriculum for Sexological Bodywork). My first years as a Sex Coach (certified in 2016) were focused on being a “general practitioner.” Recently, in my clinical sexology work, I have decided to focus on (and specialize in) pelvic pain, trauma, and racialized trauma (healing and decolonization in the BIPOC community).

What do you hope to do more of in the world using the 4-D Wheel as one of your tools to help heal people?

I find that the Wheel is such a powerful tool and I’m looking forward to being able to use it not only in clinical work but as a tool in my sex education classes and sessions. I am also excited to use it in retreats or online “boot camp” events, to help couples communicate better and heal around sex and relationship issues.
